 Round 4: Croft Race 2

The second race of the weekend was held on Sunday in the late afternoon. After a day of hail and rain the track was left soaking, however, a spell of bright sunshine just before the cars were called to the assembly area encouraged some drivers to gamble leaving their semi-slick tyres on. Arthur Forster and Mark Speller were two of the S Class drivers to opt for the dry setup, as did Rob Austin and Eric Bailey in Club Class.

Stephen started 3rd on the grid alongside Martin Depper and behind pole sitter Barney Craggs. Having made a superb start, Stephen propelled his way past Craggs and S Class driver Andrew Bailey. Stephen then overtook Speller and Forster who were struggling for grip on their Dunlop semi-slicks. However, as the track dried out Forster planted all of his '210 S Works Ponies' to blast past Stephen on the approach to Tower Bend. Stephen took victory with a 7 second gap between him and Barney, while series newcomer Martin Depper secured a very impressive third.

In S Class Sayle took the win, closely followed by 16 year old Freddie Nordstrom in 2nd and James Loukes in 3rd. Forster finished 5th followed by Speller in 6th having struggled for grip all race long.

Even more action is in store when the Challenge heads to Thruxton on the 28th & 29th May.
